Where I'm From

I am from a life of lessons taught and learned by example

From learning that we are clay sculpted throughout life

Always changing as we never cease to grow

I am from the Kentlands

A community centered around summer swim team and long hot days on the pool deck

From growing up racing my bike around the lakes

Then discovering a love for running racing through the streets

I am from Gaithersburg

A city ranked the most diverse in the nation

Where high school football rivalries dictate your Friday night

Home to Quince Orchard High School where I found a love for competition

And an education that brought me to Blacksburg

I am from Montgomery County(Maryland)

Where you can drive from the city to the country in under an hour(depending on traffic)

And Where you can have a blizzard one week and spring the next

A gateway to the Nation’s capital and years of history

I am from the many opportunities I have grown up with

From the ability to try whatever I wanted until I found what I loved to do

From years growing up involved in karate, soccer, baseball and everything else

I am from the life lessons of my Mom

Learning the importance of communication

And that the relationships you build with people should be meaningful

I’m from the lifestyle I’ve adopted from my Dad

Learning to love the mountains

And discovering an appreciation of self-reflection

While always being proud to put my name to any task I accomplish

I am from the many communities I was greatful to grow in as a child

From learning leadership with Boy Scouts

To learning how to build relationships in Gaithersburg Presbyterian Church

And learning how to pick myself up when I was down from Quince Orchard Cross Country

I am from 18 years of lessons

A desire to spread what I’ve learned with the world

And a hunger to continue to learn more

So I can one day Invent the Future
